Fiosrú contributes to international seminar on children and young people in policing
Police Ombudsman Emily Logan is this week taking part in a seminar on children and young people in policing organised by the Independent Police Complaints Authorities’ Network (IPCAN).
IPCAN is an informal network of 27 independent policing oversight bodies from across Council of Europe member states, along with colleagues from Quebec and the Pennsylvania Citizen Law Enforcement Advisory and Review Commission.
Of the 27 bodies, eight are dedicated solely to policing oversight, including Fiosrú.
The network meets regularly to share experiences, discuss developments in law and practice, and promote high standards in oversight. This week’s seminar is being held in Paris, France.
Police Ombudsman Emily Logan will today introduce and moderate a round table discussion on law enforcement and the experiences of children and young people as victims in justice systems around Europe.
On Friday, Deputy Ombudsman Brian Doherty, will present at a round table on Fiosrú’s experience with the Irish policing service’s interactions with minors in public spaces.
Other contributors to these round tables include:
- Laura Paton, Commissioner of Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, Scotland;
- Margit Hald, Chief of Staff, Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, Denmark;
- Dominique Henneaux, Deputy Director General of the Investigation Service, Belgium;
- Katarina Vucko, Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia;
